Description

New Balance Action Asia Challenge Hong Kong - Dec 13, 09 - Asia's premier one-day international adventure race

in association with Towngas & CLP.

(6:30am START)

67 Teams now registered

 

No technical mountain biking this year but a few tough hills on tarmac roads and trails. Practice hiking hills and spend some time in some river gorges as an awesome course this year with stunning views.

 

HELP CLEAN THE AIR & SEA - WE CAN'T RACE WITHOUT THEM

 

Open to 70 teams of 2. (3 more teams allowed). Course length 4.5-8 hours over 40-50 km including rock scrambling, trail running, mountain biking, ocean kayaking with rope special test that will require you to bring your own climbing equipment and helmet.

Course Disciplines:

Mountain biking on trails and roads (not technical this year but hills)

Trail running, hill trekking & road running

Orienteering and Map reading

Rock scrambling / Coasteering

Ocean kayaking in Feelfree Hardshell sit-ons

Rope work (fixed rope lines and cargo nets with an abseil)

Ocean swimming with lifevest

Special team tests of courage, skill and physical to push the mind

Race Director & Course Designer
Michael Maddess an active trail runner and mtn biker, originally from Vancouver, Canada has worked on 17 Action Asia Challenges across Asia, 2 Vietnam AA adventure races, 2 Himalayan Mtn Bike races, 22 Action SPRINT HK adventure races, 8 Action Asia Off Road HK races, worked/competed in numerous other road races/triathlons including completing 3 Ironman triathlons, 2nd runner-up in 100km trailwalker in 13 hrs 25 min, placed 8th overall in the Gobi 250km race with 5th fastest on the 80km day, 1st place Sabah 3 day team event, 2nd place Wilson team 78km in 11 hrs 34 min, coached dragonboat teams, climbed to 15,000+ft Annapurna Basecamp and jumps off bridges in Nepal for fun.


 

Technical Assistance
HK experienced climbers and mountaineering professionals will all be involved in working on the technical rigging of the course insuring safety as the main priority.

 

Training
Rope training info TBC but many climbing walls around Asia where you can brush up on your rope skills. YMCA Kings Park and HK Mountaineering Training Centre for those in HK. Macau Tower has courses for those in Macau. XHZ in Taiwan. Wilderness Associates in Singapore. Nomad in Malaysia.

Team Changes, Cancellation & Refunds
Strictly no refunds once payment is made.  No transfer of credit is possible. HK$100 for all name, team name or category changes only up to Dec 10th. Race Director has the final say on all matters.


Charity Fund-raising
One of the goals of the Action Asia Challenge is to raise charitable contributions for the Action Asia Foundation, an outdoor adventure-based charity which funds handicapped and underprivileged youth in Hong Kong and the Asian continent so they can also enjoy adventure activities like we do. We encourage all to print out the AAF donation form and ask your friends to support this cause. The team that raises the most money will be given a free entry in the next Action Asia Challenge. 10% of your entry fee will go towards the AAF. Description

When you arrive at the Tung Chung MTR, the start and finish is on the other side of the airport express tracks at Man Tung Rd Park which requires you to cut thru Citygate Shopping Centre passing the Pacific Coffee walking towards the Novotel Hotel, then going downstairs at the hotel to street level and turning left only 100 meters. If you do this correctly it only takes 5 minutes from the MTR. When you pass the Pacific Coffee you'll see the park on your left side when looking thru the large glass windows when approaching the Novotel. If driving their is meter parking on the road and a carpark by the shopping centre. If your first time give yourself more time to find.
