Vietnam goes ahead despite typhoon. Anthony Leung takes the Men's and Tai Fung In wins the womens overall results. Full results for marathon and hiking posted at bottom of page. Fantastic turnout in Vietnam despite the typhoon which showed how much we care about the affected Vietnam tourism industry and special thanks to all who contributed to raising almost US$3000 for bridge construction in Guangnam province due to typhoon damage.

For those that do not want to run the whole ultra marathon distances we will have a shorter hiking option that will be estimated 16-18 km per day that can be hiked in 3 - 4 hours a day.

Vietnam Confirmed – Need HK$2000 (US$259) now to book Hong Kong direct flight and HK$3500 (US$450) for entry. For other countries we will need only the entry fee paid as you'll have to book your own flight to meet the group in Danang Sept 30th.

HK Airfare for special direct flight - HK$1590 + tax = HK$2000 for the ticket. (Reg HK$4000 – Thank us later as this is Golden Week Holiday with expensive flights)

* Vietnam Visa is required unless you are on HK direct charter flight as you can get your visa upon arrival and cheaper. If you choose other airport (coming from Singapore/Bangkok/Taipei/other) you will need to get Visa before.

Entry Fee – HK$3,500 - (US$450) - (if you paid a deposit of HK$1,600 / US$200 the remainder of HK$1900 / US$250 should be paid now. This includes (5star) hotel (sharing twin room) on last night and local logistics and accomodation. Entry fee expenses covered will be entry fee with shirt, race number, drinks on race course, transport of your luggage on course, Village accommodation Sept 30-Oct 2, Hoi An Hotel (Palm Garden Resort - shared twin room) Oct 3, food on Sat night/Sun morning, hot water in villages, medical and police support, bus transport between airport & villages & hotel & back to airport, tour on final day. Note for villages you’ll need to bring freeze dried meals for race days until we’re back near cities.

Is it worth it?

If you see how much work we must do to put this together and the massive amount of expenses and headaches organizing this event we believe this is excellent value for money. We want to look at doing another 3-day event depending on feedback from this race so help us emailing this to your running friends.

Weds Sept 30 – 7pm Direct 1.5 hr Charter Flight leaving Hong Kong to Danang
Weds Sept 30 – 7:30pm Arrive Danang, Vietnam (1 hr time difference)
Weds Sept 30 – Drive 3 hrs up into the mountain region arriving at Village
Thurs Oct 1 – Day 1 race – Start 8am (32km – trails & dirt roads)
Fri Oct 2 – Day 2 race – Start 8am (32km – trails & dirt roads)
Sat Oct 3 – Day 3 race – Start 8am (25km – trails & dirt roads to Laos border)
Sat Oct 3 or Sun Oct 4 – Driving thru World Herritage Site MySon
Sat Oct 3 – Drive to Hoi An Palm Garden Resort Hotel – Dinner Banquet & Awards Ceremony
Sun Oct 4 – Tour day seeing heritage sites and shopping or just chillin by pool and sand
Sun Oct 4 – Flight back to Hong Kong 4pm.

This is first come first serve as limited tickets at HK$1590 + tax = HK$2000 and Golden Week Holiday Weekend with most flights booked and very expensive (reg HK$3700-4200).

*Mandatory equipment to be carried when racing each day – per person (to be updated in next 2 weeks)
- hydration system (min 2 litre capacity) camelbak style drinking system
- First aid kit with basic essentials (bandages, tape, antiseptic)
- Rain or spray jacket (plastic small packet kind ok)
- TRAIL Running shoes - Don't bring normal running shoes as you'll trash them

- Food/energy bars/dried fruit/etc to get you thru 4-8 hours each day

- 1 x emergency freeze dried meal that you can add hot water at a village

- 1 x headlamp with new batteries

- 1 x water purification tablets

Recommended items

- freeze dried food for meals in villages as hot water provided (food provided at hotel Sat night/Sun morning)
- headlamp, flashlight or torch for the village at night
- mosquito repellent
- suntan lotion
- energy food for you to do race (nuts, dried fruit, peanuts, Chinese crackers, etc)
- energy bars or gels for three days
- energy powder replacement packets to add to water for your electrolytes
- salt / electrolyte tablets

Race Director & Course Designer
Michael Maddess an active trail runner, originally from Vancouver, Canada has worked on 17 Action Asia Challenges across Asia, 1 Vietnam AA adventure race, 2 Himalayan Mtn Bike races, 22 Action SPRINT HK adventure races, 8 Action Asia Off Road HK races, worked/competed in numerous other road races/triathlons including completing 3 Ironman triathlons, 2nd runner-up in 100km trailwalker in 13 hrs 25 min, placed 8th overall in the Gobi 250km race, coached dragonboat teams, climbed to 15,000+ft Annapurna Basecamp and jumps off bridges in Nepal for fun.

CSR - Raising money for Action Asia Foundation - Ethnic Hill Tribe Village Children

The Action Asia Foundation is interested in raising money for the children of the Village region area and whether it is a donation of US$ 5 or US$ 100, all donations are welcome but not mandatory. A sponsorship pledge form will be sent by email to confirmed participants and put on the site. We're also looking at a way to do more and will discuss this with different organizations for CSR ideas and welcome input.
