2XU x Salomon win race 2- Royale International Kayak n Run
Family event goes off well soaking up the sun at Discovery Bay
June 13, 2015, Hong Kong – Thomas Lam and Tsang Tsun Kit of team 2XU x Salomon showed their trail running ability during the run leg of the Royale International Kayak n Run at Nim Shu Wan Saturday as both came into the first 3km kayak checkpoint in 3rd place not far behind the more experienced adventure racers, but made up ground fast on the 5km hill run to get a big enough lead and hold for the final 3km kayak leg from Man Kok Tsui to Nim Shue Wan keeping their lead finishing for gold in 1 hour 24 minutes 42 seconds. With calm ocean and nice water conditions, Team Gatorade SportsWorld grabbed second in 1 hour 29 minutes 57 seconds with Team Uglow 1 hour 30 minutes 58 seconds rounding the podium.
“We had a short discussion on the race tactic and after we took a look on the race map, we came to a conclusion that we must reserve energy for the later part of the race. At first, we kept a comfortable pace during the kayak. I guess we were third when we finished the first part of the kayak. Then we started to speed up on the trail and took the lead for the rest of race. The downhill section of the course was quite technical when I tried to run fast" said Tsang after their win. "Tsun Kit and I have been teammates for years. We did numerous trail running, kayaking and outward bound races together. Wish we can participate in the next race of the Royale International series, but Tsun Kit might be away” said Lam of team 2XU x Salomon.
Just over 5 minutes later arriving at Nim Shu Wan finish came team Gatorade SportsWorld. “Thorsten and I both live in Discovery Bay so it's super convenient for both of us. Since we live very close by, we did a short training on Thursday morning in order to perform at our best today. We planned to take the lead at the beginning of the race and keep it to the very end, but team 2XU x Salomon was incredibly fast on the trail” said Lynn of team Gatorade SportsWorld. “My wife and my kids were waiting for me at the hilltop. When my son saw me he said dad looks like he is struggling, but he is pretending not to. We then ran downhill as quickly as we could and had a hard fought battle with team Uglow in the second part of the kayak trying to hold on to 2nd. We tried hard to accelerate the pace and we made it. ” said Bruce who partnered with Lynn on team Gatorade SportsWorld.
“I had a superstar Antoine to join me this time. We actually never managed to kayak together, so we decided to follow the lead during the kayak, which was a smart decision and we didn’t lose too much energy to run after that. The local team 2XU x Salomon was super-fast, bullet fast. They just passed by and nothing we could do. Antoine and I pushed hard on the downhill and we finished second on the beach before doing the second leg kayak. We went into a wrong direction and loss some time to find back the right way. Therefore, we ended up in third” said Adrien Choux of team Uglow, who finished third with his teammate Frenchman Antoine Epinette in 1 hour 30 minutes 58 seconds.
2XU-Patagonia with Russian Olya Korzh and local Hong Kong runner Wong Wai Kin grabbed 1st in the mixed team category finishing in 1 hour 32 minutes 17 seconds. "Gatorade at check points tasted like unicorn tears and gave us energy to push on. Running down the hill it was great to see other teams climbing up and encourage eachother. Great day for everyone, another awesome event by AAE" said Korzh. "The sea was very calm this morning, so we needed to put extra effort on paddling” said Wong of 2XU-Patagonia
The top women’s team was team Skipton Power with Sarah Lo and Winnie Wong who finished in 1 hours 43 minutes 24 seconds. “This is my first time joining the Kayak n Run series. I have learned to kayak in my life saving training” said Wong. "I do trail running most of the time, but no official training on kayaking. Thus, Winnie has helped me a lot in the kayak. Last year was quite bad because I went into a wrong direction on the trail and ended up that I couldn’t finish the race. Therefore I learned from the past this year and spent plenty of time on reading the course map. Couldn’t believe that we made it to the women’s top!” said Lo.
Kurt Lynn and Taiki Lynn of father and son came first in family FUN EVENT category finishing in 27 minutes 43 seconds. “This is a great location for us to race because we live in Discovery Bay. We have paddled here for a practice before as we enjoy kayaking together in our free time” said Kurt Lynn. "I enjoy playing sports with my dad so much. Today's course was longer than the last one in Deep Water Bay, but I think races with longer distance favoured us as I can have more fun together with my dad,” said Taiki Lynn.
Oscar Kwok and his daughter May came in just after the Lynn’s family with big smiles. "May did a very good job on the trail today. She really pushed herself so hard and overpassed several teams. At first I thought that she would be tired from the 1.4km kayak as she paddled the whole way without taking a rest. I asked her if she wanted to slow down when we got off the kayak to recover, but she kept pushing herself during the run against the other families. Really appreciated her great effort and her spirit" said Kwok, who finished the fun event with his daughter in 30 minutes and 23 seconds.
The 7th annual Royale International Kayak n Run series Race 2 at Discovery Bay had a full entry list with 60 adult teams and over 30 family teams with the adult race covering a 3km ocean kayak, 5km trail mountain running loop above Man Kok Tsui and 3km ocean kayak back to Nim Shue Wan, while the families had a 1.4km ocean kayak and 3.5km beach run at Nim Shue Wan. Race 3 will start at Tai Tam on July 11, 2015.

Royale International獨木舟及越野跑系列賽 - 愉景灣
「Royale International親子獨木舟及越野跑系列賽」
香港本地組合奪冠夏日經典水陸比賽愉景灣站
高温晴日，繼深水灣首戰後，Royale International親子獨木舟及越野跑的第二站 - 愉景灣站今日順利完賽。除了有兩人一隊的成人組外，大會特設親子組別 (1.4公里獨木舟及3.5公里越野跑)。香港本地選手Thomas LAM和Tsun Kit TSANG組成的2XU x SALOMON隊以1小時24分42秒勇奪成人組冠軍，而親子組則由來自新西蘭的Kurt LYNN和Taiki LYNN組成的The Plonkers隊奪得第一。
早上八點，家庭組伴著海浪和笑聲率先出發。27分43秒後，由來自新西蘭的Kurt LYNN和他十一歲的兒子Taiki LYNN組成的The Plonkers隊率先衝線拿下了家庭組的第一名。Kurt說：「我們住在愉景灣所以來參賽很方便，我們家也買了一個獨木舟，為了這場比賽還也特別來訓練了一次。」在被問到夢想的時候，很有運動天賦的兒子Taiki一臉困惑的說：「我不想做職業運動員，但我也還沒想好長大後想做什麼。但我很喜歡和爸爸一起比賽。」父親Kurt則表示：「我自己是很怕熱的，如果今天不是這麼高溫度，我們其實可以更快完成的。」兒子接著說：「我覺得今天的高溫肯定有點拖累我們的成績，特別是在跑步的時候。」Kurt剛剛完成家庭組的比賽，喝口水就又準備即將開始的成人組比賽了。
今天比賽再次見到了Oscar KWOK和May KWOK父女。女兒May開心的說享受今天的比賽。父親Oscar則說：「上場比賽還沒有玩夠，我覺得今天的賽道長度剛剛好，盡興之餘也覺得有所突破。我們在官網看到下一場在7月11號，迫不及待想報名參加了。」在被問到今天戰術的時候，父親Oscar笑說：「我女兒人小身輕，跑步又大步又快，我覺得我的步子都沒有她的大，所以跑步絕對是我們的強項，而獨木舟的時候我們會保留一點力氣。前面的一隊完賽時間短也主要是因為他們獨木舟速度快過我們。」他接著說：「和女兒一起運動，既是家人又是隊友的感覺很棒，參加這些比賽很有利於加深感情。」
至於成人組別，香港本地選手Thomas LAM和Tsun Kit TSANG組成的2XU x SALOMON隊以1小時24分42秒勇奪冠軍。Thomas LAM贏得比賽後表示：「我們今天的策略就是留前鬥後。在划獨木舟的時候我們沒有盡力，策略是一直跟著前面的隊伍，保持在第三的位置，跑山的時候再超越他們。隊友Kit則說：「我和Thomas組隊比賽很多年了，今天比賽保持了一個很舒服的狀態，發揮了優勢，雖然一直憑感覺但比賽節奏和結果都不錯。我個人覺得比賽難度更高就好了，不過今天的賽道也很不錯，主要考爆發力。越野跑段下坡如果想保持速度的話其實也很講求技術。」
緊接其後衝線的是住在愉景灣的新西蘭選手Kurt LYNN和英國選手Thorsten BRUCE組成的Gatorade SportsWorld，成績為1小時29分57秒。Kurt完賽後表示：「剛剛和兒子一起完成家庭組比賽，所以其實消耗了不少能量。手臂有點累，不過對這個成績也很滿意。」Thorsten也說：「平時會借Kurt家的獨木舟和兒子一起訓練。今天我們開賽就用盡全力，所以第一段完成上岸的時候我們的確是領先的，之後跑山的部分和第三名的隊伍遇到過幾次，奪冠的本地選手在最難的上坡跑得非常快，完全追不上。我的兒子和太太都在場給我們加油，兒子說在我跑上坡的時候，他一眼就看出我跑得很吃力。所以我覺得今天能有這個成績已經很滿足。」
由法國選手Adrien CHOUX和Antoine EPINETTE組成的Team UGLOW隊則以1小時30分58秒的成績奪得本屆比賽成人組季軍。Antoine說：「我們獨木舟段一路其實都緊緊跟著前兩名，給越野跑賽段留了一些力氣。」Adrian表示讚同：「我覺得今天比賽節奏很好。雖然是多年好友，但今天是第一次和Antoine組隊參賽，結果也很讓我開心！」
男女混合組第一名則由俄國女將Olya KORZH和香港獨木舟教練WONG Wai Kin組成的2XU-Patagonia隊衛冕，用時1小時32分17秒。已贏得無數比賽的Olya說：「今天的跑道長度剛剛好，不長不短。比賽結果可以更好一些的，不過都很滿意。」Wong Wai Kin則表示：「今天的比賽難度更高, 賽道亦較上次長了。我們今天早上還一起看了一個教學視頻，介紹不同的獨木舟技巧。」
而由Sarah LO和Hock Wing Winnie WONG兩個本地選手組成的Skipton Power隊則用時1小時43分24秒，勇奪女子組冠軍。拯溺港隊隊員Winnie說：「玩得很開心，這是我第一次參加獨木舟及越野跑系列賽。因為我自己喜歡玩划艇，雖然不是獨木舟，但對我來說也不算太難。就是獨木舟段的時候，海上無風無浪，借不到力所以完全靠人力划有點幸苦。」隊友Sarah則感謝隊友說：「這個比賽我參加了很多次，但我平日還是越野跑多一點，基本不會專門練獨木舟。所以今天能有這個成績完全是靠Winnie，她真的很厲害。」
今晨親子組隊伍劃獨木舟越洋經過長沙欄水路1.4公里，回到稔樹灣沙灘後接連3.5公里定向越野跑步。而成人組別，則從稔樹灣沙灘劃獨木舟3公里，再越野跑5公里至萬國咀，然後再劃3公里獨木舟折返稔樹灣沙灘。
本系列尾站將於7月11日在大潭灣舉行且名額有限，想參加的朋友請抓緊時間報名！
