Taiwanese Deng training hard MSIG AA Singapore

DENG - I aim to run 120k week for MSIG Singapore

DENG Weifu (Pippen), the fastest Taiwanese runner in TAIWAN Action Asia 50 last year is training hard for MSIG Singapore Action Asia 50. “I aim to run at least 120km per week in June in order to prepare myself better for the coming MSIG Singapore AA 50”, said determined Deng.

Q&A

Q1. When did you start running?

A1: In high school, even though I was attending volleyball training, I started to find myself looking forward to running in mountains by myself whenever I had the time.   Considering running and sweating as a hobby, I didn’t really set any fixed training schedule until recently as I competed in a lot more races in the last 3 years.

Q2. Which race is your most memorable race?

A2: 2014 TAIWAN Action Asia 50 for sure. Simply because so many people told me that it was impossible for me to get any good result in such a technical course but I proved them all wrong by being recognized as the fastest Taiwanese runner at that race. I tried my best to prepare for the race and my hard work paid off.

Q3. What is your typical training routine? How would you prepare for the MSIG Singapore AA 50?

A3: Currently I train 5 days a week. Weight lifting, bicycle riding and trail running for 100km per week are all essential parts of my training. I also aim to run at least 120km per week in June in order to prepare myself better for the coming MSIG Singapore AA 50.

Q4. Ideal trail running course and distance for you?

A4: Since endurance and willpower are my strength, I prefer longer races and 50km races are my favourite. I also enjoy running downhill a lot more than uphill. I definitely need to train myself more for uphill climbing. But for trail running beginners, they don’t have to push themselves too hard at first. I think 10km can be a good start and they will find themselves wanting to run more after few months and enjoy trail running more as well.

Many Taiwanese will be watching DENG Weifu (Pippen) in Singapore July 25 MSIG Singapore Action Asia 50) and wish him luck. It's not the result that matters, but "how hard you try" that counts.

Q&A
