Strategy the same for Janda Baik says Gray
Salomon Action Asia Malaysia in assoc w OtterBox This Sunday

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 24th - Salomon Action Asia Malaysia in assoc w OtterBox, a short yet technical trail running race will be coming back to Malaysia on November 29th in Janda Baik located just over 1 hour from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Covering some of Malaysia’s most challenging nature trails, this race offers all participants a chance to escape from all the hustle and bustle of the city and to run in the beautiful nature of Janda Baik. American elite Scott Sports runner Joe Gray 2015 USATF Mountain runner of the year will compete alongside 700 race participants, other local veteran runners as well as quite a few celebrities including Steve Yap, Cindy Chen and Winson Voon.

"My strategy this year is the same as before. I want to get out in the mountains and enjoy the scenery while testing my body to see where my fitness is. Training and racing in Asia this time of year will be extremely beneficial as I will get a chance to explore new mountains and run in countries that I've never experienced before. Racing in Asia will help push my fitness up as I train for the Olympic Trials and the courses I will take part in require strength which is exactly what a marathon requires whether it be flat or in the mountains!" said Joe Gray - Scott Sports USA on coming to the Salomon Action Asia Malaysia w OtterBox and MSIG Lantau Hong Kong race.

“I was very impressed by the race course in Janda Baik last year.  The race was tough as it had a combination of gravel roads, single trails and rivers. Meanwhile, it was very well-organized. I also appreciated the No Cup Policy that Action Asia Events used to proactively promote the green environmentally friendly concept that helps reduce plastic,” said Salomon local runner Mohd Puzi Dolah.

“I love running. I have only tried road running before and I have never run in the forest before so my goal this Sunday is to just simply finish the race. The race will be very challenging for me I hope I can adjust my pace accordingly on the trail and run across the finish line,” said 21 years old first-timer Ms. Lam.

There are 2 distances on offer, which means participants of all ages and fitness are welcome to join. The Salomon Action Asia Malaysia in assoc w OtterBox will start at Cherengin Hills Convention & Spa resort on November 29, 2015 (Sunday) with 7:00 a.m. flag off for 18km and 7:05am for 10km.

The easier 10km category route offers both hilly and flat terrain for beginners and novices giving them an opportunity to complete a 532m elevation gain course with 409 elevation loss, highest point reaching 516m and lowest point at 374m covering around 7.2km of dirt roads and 2.8km of cement roads. There will be one water checkpoint with a cut-off at 4.5 hours and total cut-off 5 hours to complete the course which organizers believe all should have no difficulty in completing if they are regular walkers and have a base level of fitness like going out 2x a week for a couple hours walking or jogging.

For the brave a more daunting 18km a more tough 767m elevation gain/769m elevation loss with 516m highest point and 374m lowest point along 16km of dirt roads/trails and 2km of paved road with 2 water checkpoints. The cut-off will be 6 hours to complete the whole 18km course. Due to some new roads distances might be adjusted by 1km longer for each category.
