Action Asia Challenge Participants Craving for Adrenalin Like a Junkie

“Hardest to hardcore”: Hong Kong’s longest running annual adventure race to challenge competitors for the 18th year

HONG KONG – Successfully now going in its 18th year as one of Hong Kong longest running adventure races, Sunday, May 8th, is going to challenge over 300 competitors in the C3fit Action Asia Challenge Hong Kong, with weekend warriors craving adrenalin to relieve their work that they do on weekdays. As one of the typical races organized by Action Asia Events, it receives the great enthusiasm and constant support from international and local runners. Participants will run, kayak, mountain bike, abseil their way around Tai Lam Chung in the New Territories of Hong Kong. The historic event aims to promote healthy living through adventure in some of Hong Kong's most scenic areas.

The C3fit Action Asia Challenge is the race that needs not only persistence, endurance, muscle strength, but also teamwork. Apart from the individual 15km Trail Run category, the Kayak n Run category and Full Adventure category will be participated by teams of 2. Full Adventure includes 9km trail running, 29 km mountain biking, 5km ocean kayaking and 100m abseiling with ropes, which overall needs around 4 to 10 hours with good team work. As for the Kayak n Run, every team needs to complete 7km trail running and 5km ocean kayaking, which is also a big challenge for a team. The 15km Trail Run as the only individual race will be very runnable with 90% dirt trail, ridge lines and 10% tarmac, which is quite an easy and fast course with one small technical section near the last 500m.

Hong Kong local female runner Wyan Chow Pui-yan, a team member of PlayGround X Dream Chasing Action, has confirmed that she will fight for the race. “I have been participating in the Action Asia Challenge in different districts since 1998, the year that this event started, and I am very glad that I have a new partner with me this year. Hope we can grab the title of mixed category as well as the overall top five.” When asked about the balance between work and training, Wyan said with smile, “Work hard and play hard! When I am working, I will try my best. And when I am playing, I will enjoy myself and do the training.”

Chung Ren Chen, the champion of 2005 Action Asia Challenge mens team and also the first Chinese team to win the Action Asia championship title, is going to take part in the Full Adventure category, under the team of SCOTT TAIWAN. “I decided to come back to Hong Kong and have a good time here. To prepare for this race, I even drink less beer and make full use of time to run around the mountain nearby,” Chen said refering to the thought that Taiwan work hard but also play hard. Last minute Chen is having to look for a new teammate as his present teammate just injured himself.

W K Chan and James Lee, with team name Garlic, participated the Full Adventure category of Action Asia Challenge in 2015 and said they wish to finish the race with a better result than last year. “In fact, as for the preparation for this event, our strategy is to keep the training all year round and join some other races as part of the training and stay passionate for racing. Usually we spend more time on every Sunday to balance daily work and training. There would be a 3-4 hours training of various kinds, such as trail running, on-road running and biking,” said Chan. James Lee also gave some advice for beginners. “They could try the short distance race at the beginning, like the Action Asia sprints series. Anyhow, I think the driving force must be the “love on nature for beginner. I would also share the race news, photos through Facebook and other channels to let my friends know exciting the races are and we do  have a great time in the races in order to encourage them to race with us,”

The C3fit Action Asia Challenge could not happen without the kind support of it's presenting sponsor C3fit, the official store for registration Action X Store, Otterbox, Flyingball, Socam, Kitsound, Wastons Water, Key Sun Zinke, Salonsip, Herbalgy, Gatorade, Oldham Li & Nie Lawyers and the Action Asia Foundation.
