Malaysian female elite Tahira talks MSIG VK

Malaysian elite Tahira Najmunissa Muhammad who grabbed 3rd at the Climbathon on Kinabalu will be eyeing the VK in Hong Kong at the Asian Skyrunning Championship and hoping to do Malaysia proud at the MSIG Lantau VK - Dec 2 2017.

After her impressive 3rd place recently behind 2 other international elites from Kenya and the Philippines in 3hrs 22min on the Kinabalu course, the confident going Malaysian female elite runner Tahira Najmunissa Muhammad confirmed to do the Vertical Kilometer at the Asian Skyrunning Championship in Hong Kong.

How does Tahira train?

"I train a lot on road running compare to trail as where i live there are no hills, mountion or off road trail to run.. My usual training will be 2 hours running and then cycling, plus core exercise as i only have until 12noon to train, sometimes only until 11am.. I'm doing mostly the same training daily still, but on weekends my husband and I will do our long run up some mountions near to my mum's house.. The MSIG VK will be a very great experience for me as I am still very new to the running world and meeting up with the other international runners will be so exciting plus I will know where and what to improve.. I am so looking forward for this event as I know I will learn a lot from the organizers and other runners too".

Family?

I am a full time housewife and a mother to 3 kids.

I do my training in the morning when i send my kids to kindergarden and to the babysitter. I usually train alone based on my own training program and advise from my husband and phsyiotheraphy doctor. My training sesssion will be from 8am to 12.30pm and then i go back home to cook and pick up my kids at 1pm. I also train in the evening taking turns with my husband while the kids are at the park or swimming pool. On weekends if we dont have any races, my husband and i will do long hours training together.

I am mostly inspired by all the champ from all over the world in all sports and also my kids. I'm doing what I do as i truly love it and i want my kids, when they grow up know that their mother was a strong women and inspires them back. I am also inpired with my husband as I know if he can do it, then so can I..

Training and going for races has make me compromise alot of things which is mostly time for myself. Even tough i am not working i have little kids and no matter how tired I am after each training and races, they are my priority. That makes me always in a hurry in doing everything and I have less time with both of my family. in finance wise, it is really hard which means i have to always make sure I win races in Malaysia to balance the money flow. But no matter how hard things get, it has always turn out in a good way and i am happy for it as I truly love sport".
