Skyrunning World Champ/UTMB winner Chaverot knows how to grind thru pain - MSIG Lantau in Dec.

Current Skyrunning World Champion and 2016 Overall Female UTMB winner and French National Caroline Chaverot confirms to do the "double" - both the MSIG Lantau Vertical Kilometer and the MSIG Lantau 50 at Asian Skyrunning Championship.

Skyrunning World Champion/UTMB winner coming to Hong Kong in December for Asian Skyrunning Championship.

After facing continuous preasure thru the UTMB race and staying in front to take top place on the podium and redemption from failing to finish the year before, it’s great to see Caroline Chaverot (Hoka) heading to Asia at the end of the year after a dream season for the French women.

Caroline's thoughts on Asia:

"I’ve met the Chinese runner Dong Li and really happy to see Asian runners so passionate about the mountains and can see the enthusiasm of China and Japan growing and developing very fast and think trail running will increase dramatically in Asia. I really think Chinese people have a good physical build for trail running and can do so well in the sport. I'm hearing about races everywhere and believe the sport will develop very quickly in Asia. I'm excited to come”.

Caroline’s background:

“I have 3 kids and just started running after my 3rd child as I was a former kayak competitor and rock climber always doing outdoor sports. After my 3rd child it was much easier to do just running and didn’t think I would compete. I did one race and liked it and was lucky to have good results as only committed myself to do my best and not focus on winning as not easy working full time teaching and training”.

Tell us about your 2 big wins recently:

“It was always a dream about finishing UTMB (170km) and not only finished, but won as was preparing whole season, but not easy. The month before UTMB, I did the Skyrunning World Championship in the Spanish Pyrenees (105km) which was different as much more mountains, ridge lines and full of beauty, but very technical and difficult in a different way. UTMB is much less technical forcing you to run much more and more tough on the legs for me in general as was getting leg cramps thru the race. I really had to fight and push myself. It is difficult to run fast knowing others are chasing after me so close, so I hope to have less leg cramps next year from more experience. I would think I’m stronger in races with more climbing compared to flatter events. I might try Western States or Hardrock next year, but this year will be first time in Asia running and so excited and looking forward to running both the Vertical Kilometer up Lantau Peak on the Friday and the MSIG Lantau 50 on the Sunday."

Look forward to seeing Caroline Chaverot on the start line Dec 2 and Dec 4 in Hong Kong at the Asian Skyrunning Championship.
