Chou Chin, the 3rd place and the fastest Asian of last year X-Trail race, is now training hard for the 2016 NISSAN Action Asia X-Trail TAIWAN

1.對於上屆賽道的印象(難度/喜愛之處/風景…)

 整條17K的賽道可跑性非常高,並不會太難,加上位處指南宮,可以俯瞰整個大台北,完賽後乘坐貓空纜車絕對是放鬆身心的最佳選擇。

What is your impression about the race course?

Although I was only in the 17K race, I think the whole course is very runnable. It was not too difficult for most of the participants. The course is located at the Zhinan Temple. Runners can enjoy the entire Taipei city view while running. It is definitely a good way to relax yourself by taking the Maokong cable car after finishing the race.

 

2.是什麼激勵你開始越野跑呢?

開始跑越野純粹是一個巧合,當時在朋友的介紹下參加夜跑團體,晚上戴著頭燈在市區附近的山區奔跑,覺得非常有趣,而且都市的夜景美不勝收,這不同於一般的路跑枯燥乏味。

What motivates you to start trail running?

For me, it is purely a coincidence to start trail running. My friend introduced me to join a night running group. Unlike the usual boring road race, it’s actually very interesting to run at night in the mountains nearby the city with a headlamp. Furthermore, we are able to enjoy the stunning city night view, which definitely makes the whole journey even more enjoyable.

 

3.你是如何平衡生活、學習和跑步?

我現在還是個學生,平常上課時幾乎沒時間跑步,但是為了要準備比賽,我會把午休的一個小時拿來訓練,晚上八點教球後也會慢跑個半小時。

我很喜歡以賽代訓,週末安排短程的比賽,除了維持體能外,也能享受競爭的樂趣。

How to balance daily life, study and running?

Being a student, I do not spare a lot of time to run during the normal school days. However, in order to prepare for the race, I try to manage my time wisely by making good use of my one-hour lunch breaks for trainings. Also, I tend to jog for half an hour after coaching students in the evenings.

I really like participating in races as part of my trainings. Doing a short distance race over the weekends not only help me by maintaining my physical fitness, but also let me enjoy the fun of competition.

 

4.距離「NISSAN 動感亞洲越野賽 台灣站」還有一個多月,現階段會進行一些針對性的賽前訓練嗎? 可以簡單介紹一下嗎?

我會把跑量拉大,提升自己的有氧能力,畢竟山徑越野賽得花很長時間。而訓練場地則以跑山為主,通常每次練跑的距離大約是12至18公里左右,時間則為1至1.5小時。

There is just a month to start from the game.At this stage, do you take some specific pre-race training? Can you briefly introduce it?

For the 50 km cross-country race, I increase the distance of running to improve my aerobic capacity since it takes a lot of stamina in order to complete cross-country trails. I choose to train the mountains and spend 1 to 1.5 hours to run about 12 to 18 kilometers.

 

5.身為年輕一代的越野跑手,請問你對台灣越野跑的發展有任何期許和願景嗎?

我期許能像香港、日本一樣蓬勃的發展。台灣著名的好山好水,是都市人無法體會的,參加夜跑後我深深體會到這點。

台灣越野跑可能還需要一段長時間去發展,希望藉由運動去推廣觀光、環保,並結合許多層面議題達到多贏的局面。

As a young trail race runner, do you have any expectation or vision for the development of trail running races in Taiwan?

I hope the trail race in Taiwan would develop as successfully as the ones in Hong Kong and Japan. Not many people understand and appreciate the beautiful natural scene in Taiwan. After attending the Hash race, I am deeply amazed by the stunning views of the mountain and water in Taiwan.

It takes time to develop trail race in Taiwan. I really hope that by imitating UTMF, we are able to promote tourism and environmental protection through sports, and integrate with different topics to achieve a win-win situation.

 

6.有什麼建議給參加「NISSAN 動感亞洲越野賽 台灣站」越野跑新手?

不同於一般的路跑賽事,鞋子、補給是初次接觸越野跑最為重要的,因為起伏多變的地形,欠缺越野鞋會使危險性大大提升,而山徑裡的補給運輸不便,所以得自己準備妥當。

再來就是結伴同行,途中可能會遇到蜂群、毒蛇、螞蝗,甚至氣候因素(失溫、大霧、艷陽)等導致迷失方向、或是身體不適等,結伴同行除了良好照應外,也不會那麼孤單。

Do you have any suggestions for the new trail runners of “NISSAN Action Asia X-trail Taiwan”?

Shoes and supplies are the two most important things in trail running races. Differed from normal running races, trail running races are normally equipped with various types of terrain. Thus, it would be very dangerous without wearing proper running shoes. Also, due to the inconvenient transportation system in the trails, we have to well prepare the supplies in advance.

Moreover, running with companions is also a very useful tip. During the race, you might lose your way or feel uncomfortable probably due to the poor weather and bad environment. Even the worse, in some trails, you might have a chance encountering with bees, snakes or leeches which could be very dangerous. Thus, if you have a companion, apart from taking care of each other, you would also not feel lonely in the races.
