Garden City to HK Island - Singaporean Png looking to gain some experience

Garden City to HK Island - Singaporean Png looking to gain some experience

"I usually take a step back, breathe, reevaluate things and formulate a solution to the problem at hand." - Alvin Png

1. Why did you decide to participate in MSIG HK50 series – Hong Kong Island?

The terrains of race course in Hong Kong Island is very different from the rest of the local races, which are usually on the main trails. Therefore, this is something new to me and I believe this would bring me an interesting challenge and would be an eye opener.

2. What do you find most challenging about this race?

I think the challenge is to control and reel in the pace for the runnable first half to preserve energy for the tough second half. The weather at this time of the year in HK is similar to Singapore so it is comfortable for me. In fact, I prefer the heat over cold.

3. There is only one more week to go, how’s your preparation going?

All seems to be in order. I happen to be working on a training system that is specific to a 50km race.

4. What would you do to deal with the challenges and difficulties while racing?

My number one rule is never to panic or get frustrated. I usually take a step back, breathe, reevaluate things and formulate a solution to the problem at hand. This approach applies not only to races but to all aspects in life.

5. Compared to the trail running in Singapore, what is your expectation for 2017 MSIG HK50 series – Hong Kong Island?

The trails in Singapore is flat in comparison to those in Hong Kong. In Singapore, we usually do the elevation specific training on a 160m hill or stairs in apartment buildings. Although it can get boring at times, I think it's a really good way to beef up mentally. As always, the only expectation I have is to enjoy the race and have fun!
