Sprinters looking forward to the final race of

Bonaqua C3fit Action SPRINT Trail Series 2018 – Discovery Bay

With high anticipation, the annual Bonaqua C3fit Action SPRINT Trail Series has finally come to the last race of 2018. Discovery Bay Sprint will be held on Saturday, May 19 with a 12 km course which is designed to suit runners of all abilities as well as fast hikers.

Ng Wai-hei, Hong Kong’s trail running rising star will take on the challenge of the Discovery Bay leg for the first time as part of his training for the MSIG Action Asia Development Plan and the Skyrunning World Championship 2018. Aiming to be the overall top five in the race, Ng said: “It’s summer now so I would like to join some short distance races to train for the speed and techniques. Bonaqua C3fit Action SPRINT Trail Series – Discovery Bay offers a great chance for me to train and hike up to Lo Fu Tau so I would try my best to finish the race and hope to get in the overall top 5.”

This year is also Ma Chung Kit’s second time joining the Discovery Bay race with his wife. Living in Discovery Bay, they gladly shared the story behind their first trail running race: “In 2014 edition, we saw the participants running on the trail to Lo Fu Tau which made us curious about trail running so we decided to be volunteers in the 2015 edition in order to figure out what trail running race is. In the following edition, we registered as participants for the first time in trail running races and got into trail running ever since.” Speaking of the goal of the race, the couples just want to try their best to finish the race and have fun.

The 12km race course mainly consists of beach run, trail route, and flat road. Participants will start at the Discovery Bay Plaza with 400m beach run, then run into Discovery Bay Road and Discovery Valley Road before hiking up to Lo Fu Tau. After that, down to the reservoir and continue to Cheung Sha Lan and Nim Shue Wan Tsuen back to finish line.

Hong Kong elite trail runner Stone Tsang Siu-keung shared his tips on how to master the Bonaqua C3fit Action SPRINT Trail Series. “Integrate your training into your everyday life. For example, you could run back home after work, or perhaps get off a stop or two before your destination and jog the remainder of the distance home. If you live or work in a tall building, you could do some power hiking on the stairs to get in some hill work,” Tsang said.

Tsang also encourages all to try to head out to the trails with friends on weekends and practice going up and down technical terrains. Enjoy some little adventures and running three times a week should be enough to prepare you for the race.”

Another experienced trail runner Wong Ho-chung also shared on how to balance family and trail running. “Everyone has 24 hours a day, if you want to go further, you have to bring along your family, encourage them to take part in my favorite sport so that they can know more about you. Then you could just spend a certain amount of time to have different benefits e.g. training, family quality time, health and be able to cultivate your children’s potential,” said Wong.

The Bonaqua C3fit Action SPRINT Trail Series has been around for enthusiasts for 15 years. Action Asia Events is dedicated to creating diversified and challenging routes and give runners the opportunity to set foot on less-trodden trails and explore the suburbs away from the concrete jungle.

The event is possible due to the generous support of presenting sponsors Bonaqua and C3fit with supporting partners: Action X Store, Hoka One One, Salonsip, Royale International, Aquarius, OL&N and Action Asia Foundation.
