Hong Kong's Fung faces one big mental mind test in Taiwan

Post-race interview with Hong Kong trail runner Edith Fung after completing one of the most technical challenging 50km races in Asia

Taiwan - November 14, 2015

MSIG Taiwan Action Asia 50

What was the most challenging part of the race?

Every time I went down I thought I could just go downhill and go home but there was always another climb waiting for me. It was all hidden and tough. The race was so tough.

What is the difference between a long climb like Lantau Peak and continuous shorter yet steeper climbs, the mental side and the physical side?

After you finish each small hill, you would hope that it is going to be the last one but it is not. It was like a mental mind game. Also it was more technical here in Taiwan. Especially with all the rocks and slippery trails, you just have to be very careful whereas those steps in Hong Kong races were relatively easier.

Anything else that you want to mention?

The scenery was amazing and the landscape was stunning. I would never find races in Hong Kong where I could spend so much time on natural trails and forests as here in Taiwan. I will be back.
