Bonaqua C3fit Action SPRINT Trail Series Pre-Race Interview with Chan Tsz-hin

With hope and resilience, Chan Tsz-hin 陳梓軒, a 16-year-old trail enthusiast is going to challenge Bonaqua C3fit Action SPRINT Trail Series for the first time.

1. How many times have you participated in our races? Why do you join Bonaqua C3fit Action SPRINT Trail Series - REPULSE BAY and SAI KUNG?

As this is the first time participating in a race held by Action Asia Event, I was excited and thrilled. I was interested in joining as there aren’t many outdoor events like this in Hong Kong. Outdoor activity allows me to get energized and take a break from my busy life. Another reason I was interested in this is because of the gorgeous view in Hong Kong’s country side. This race starts off at the south side of Hong Kong island, a lovely cool path takes us along the seashore accompanied by the bird’s singing. Last but not least, this event offers the age category 14-19 which is perfect for me.

 您參加過多少場動感亞洲的比賽? 為何會參加Bonaqua C3fit 動感亞洲越野跑步系列賽?

 由於這是我第一次參加Action Asia Event舉辦的比賽,我感到興奮及十分期待週六的Bonaqua C3fit 動感亞洲越野跑步系列賽 – 淺水灣站。而其中一個參賽原因是香港沒有太多像這樣的戶外活動。戶外活動能使我充滿活力,並讓我擺脫繁忙的生活去休息一下。另一個原因就是因為香港美麗的自然景色。而是次14公里的賽事於淺水灣開跑,能夠沿著海岸跑步,途中更伴隨著鳥語花香,加上賽事更設有14-19年齡組別,也正好適合我。

 

 2. What got you into trail running?

One day, I was hiking with my friends, and I saw some people running on trail, I was fascinated by what they were doing. I thought it was unbelievable that someone could run with such grace on rocky trails, while I was stumbling and tripping on everything. After the encounter in that afternoon, I had the desire and interest to learn more about trail running, and even started to train for it myself.

是什麼激勵您開始越野跑? 

有一天,我和朋友遠足時看到有些人正在進行越野跑,我被那幾位越野跑手深深吸引著,看得十分入迷。跟他們相比,我登山時一路上都是跌跌撞撞,但他們卻能在崎嶇不平的山徑上跑得如此輕鬆,實在是難以置信。

自那天起,我便對越野跑充滿興趣,自己甚至開始去訓練。

3. How has trail running changed your life? How to balance the daily work and pre-race training?

Before I got into trail running, I lacked independency, especially when going to places I wasn’t familiar with. However, I knew that in order to improve, I had to train and run by myself. The desire to improve gave me the motivation to step out of my comfort zone and start training by myself. When I run uphill, I realise that it is surprisingly similar to some of the challenges and difficulties I face throughout my studies and daily life. There is always something to improve on, and with that in mind I have become more determined to improve.

To achieve balance in my studies and training, I tried to schedule an equal number of hours for each of them. I usually do my training after school. However, it is hard to have a perfect balance as there could be unexpected events. Thereby, I rearranged my training program, by using the time before school, or during lunch to stay fit and in shape for all upcoming races.

越野跑對您的生活帶來了什麼改變嗎? 您是如何平衡生活、學習和跑步?

在開始越野跑之前,我不太懂得獨立。可是為了進步,我必須訓練。渴望進步的我走出了我的舒適區,並自己開始訓練。在跑上山坡時,
我意識到這與我在日常生活和學習期間遇到的一些挑戰和困難甚為相似。
當明白到總有一些事情需要改進,我就會變得更有決心去改進。

 

為了在學習和訓練中取得平衡,我會嘗試在這兩方面都投放相若的時段。

我通常在放學後進行訓練,但有時可能會出現突發事情,所以想於兩者中取得平衡是一件不容易的事。因此我會為此重新安排訓練時段,例如於上學前或午飯時間去訓練,務求以最佳狀態及健康身體去迎戰接下來的比賽。

 

4. Do you encourage your family, friends or other people to join trail running?

Yes, I encourage my family and friends to join trail running clubs, especially if a club is hosting group runs on various trails. This is because it allows us to learn more routes and meet more people.

您會鼓勵家人,朋友和其他人參加越野跑嗎?

我會鼓勵我的家人和朋友加入越野跑會,因為透過參與團跑能夠探索不同的郊野山徑,同時結交更多的朋友。

 

5. What are your expectations for this race?

My expectation is to be the champion. I will try my best and put in all my hard work to finish the race as fast as possible. More importantly, I expect to have fun while enjoying the nature.

您對此次比賽有什麼期待?

我期望自己能在Bonaqua C3fit 動感亞洲越野跑步系列賽中得到冠軍,我會全力以赴,盡快完成賽事。不過更重要的是,我想好好享受比賽及大自然的樂趣。
