High Humidity Poses Challenge: KC Chan and Hannah Bainbridge Claim 14km Men's and Women's Titles

HONG KONG, April 12, 2026 – The Action Sprint – Sai Kung, the second race of the three-event trail series, saw all participants competing in the 14km distance due to a landslide on the course. Race morning was sunny with extremely high humidity. By the time runners reached the 7km mark along Luk Wu Country Trail, many described the conditions as feeling like being inside an oven. Despite the hot and humid weather, a large number of trail runners gathered in Sai Kung to take on the 14km Action Sprint trail race. Hong Kong runner KC and UK runner Hannah Bainbridge claimed the overall men's and women's titles respectively.

Intense Competition in Men's 14km

The Men's race was highly competitive. Chan Ka Keung KC (Hong Kong) crossed the finish line first in 1 hour 11 minutes and 11 seconds to claim the overall win. After the race, he said: "It was very humid today, but the whole course was really enjoyable. After Sai Wan Tin, it turned into concrete roads and became hot and steamy. I could see Salomon following me the whole time, but I kept my pace. Near the finish, he tried to overtake me, but luckily I held on to first place. Thank you, Action Asia, for organizing such an exciting and fun race!"

Salomon Wettstein (Switzerland) from UGLOW team, finished just 12 seconds behind KC Chan in 1 hour 11 minutes and 23 seconds to take second place. He admitted: "At first, I wasn't really keen to join because the distance is too short and the pace too fast, especially on such a hot and humid day. But this race means a lot to me because it takes place right near my home, so I felt I should participate no matter what. KC ran very fast. I tried to overtake him the whole way and managed to close the gap at the end, but I failed. His victory is well-deserved, and I'm very happy with second place. Thank you to all the volunteers and the organizers—this was a great race!"

Leung Son Keng (Hong Kong) took third place in 1 hour 18 minutes and 5 seconds. He was also the fourth-place finisher in last year's men's category. He said: "I'm very happy to join this race again today. The weather was good at the start, but it got very hot in the middle and later stages. After descending to the road section, it became very runnable and comfortable, and the sun wasn't so strong. I was lucky to get a podium finish. Thank you, Action Asia!"

Fourth place went to French runner Vincent Casanova (Singapore Shufflers) finishing in 1 hour 21 minutes and 18 seconds. He said: "The temperature was very high today. I was supposed to run 18km, but now it's 14km. The pace was very fast from the beginning, but I held on. This race was fun—I really enjoyed it."

Fifth place was John Cove (UK) in 1 hour 22 minutes and 12 seconds. He said: "I finished fifth today. It was quite hot and humid, but not too tough. The course was beautiful. This race made my morning very pleasant—great!"

In the women's category, UK runner Hannah Bainbridge claimed victory in 1 hour 27 minutes and 15 seconds. She said: "I really enjoyed today's race! The course was great, the markings were very clear, and the weather was comfortable. The snacks after the race were also delicious. Thank you, Action Asia!"

Feanca Chu (Hong Kong) finished second in 1 hour 32 minutes and 49 seconds. She said: "I took part in the Action Sprint Sai Kung today. It was very humid, and this was my first time doing a short-distance trailrace. I found it very challenging, the experience was excellent, and I had a great time running. Thank you, Action Asia!"

Ellen Montanari (Switzerland) secured third place in 1 hour 37 minutes and 32 seconds. She shared: "This race was quite tough, and I feel I wasn't fully prepared. The weather was very hot—maybe an 8am start is still too late, making the temperature a bit too high. I ran at my own pace the whole way, but the result wasn't what I hoped for. Still, I'm very happy to be here running with everyone. The event was well-organized, the course markings were very clear, the atmosphere was great, and it was an enjoyable run. Thank you!"

Joyce Chong (Hong Kong) finished fourth in 1 hour 45 minutes and 20 seconds. She said: "I usually do road running and only started trail running this year. I'm very grateful to Action Asia for the excellent organization—there were delicious snacks along the way and at the finish, and the course markings were very clear. In the past in other races, I often had to check my GPX during trail runs, but this time at this Action Asia event the markings were there the whole way, so I could just go full speed—it was very satisfying and runnable. There were quite a few concrete sections on this course, and I even saw someone changing shoes mid-race, which was interesting. I'm very happy to have joined this event. Although it was hot and sunny, the scenery was beautiful, and I had a great time running."

Lailanie Honorica (Philippines) took fifth place in 1 hour 47 minutes and 40 seconds. She said: "This is my third time joining an Action Asia event. The event is really great! The stairs on the course were still a bit too high for me, but I climbed them quickly. I'm very happy to get fifth place."

Event Summary

The Action Sprint – Sai Kung not only showcased the resilience and speed of runners in hot and humid conditions but also once again demonstrated Action Asia Events' consistently high standards of race organization and clear course marking. The organizers extend their thanks to all volunteers, staff, and sponsors for their full support in making the event a success.

Since 2004, the Action Sprint Trail Run – Sai Kung has become an annual tradition for Hong Kong's trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts. This year's edition attracted nearly 200 participants to take on the 14km race and experience the joy of outdoor sports.

Due to a landslide the organizer was forced to adjust the original 12km and 18km course categories, resulting in a single 14km distance.

The event could not have happened without the kind support of Bonaqua, Aquarius, Corona beer, Neon Tiger, PURE Fitness, Action X Store, Fitz, Action Asia Sports Academy together with the hard working marshals, volunteers and staff.
