“Mountain Coffee, Tribal Life”
Course description:
This is a HIKING and trail running event. You will be hiking and running thru rice fields, village single track trails, mountain trails and dirt roads in the beautiful ethnic hill tribe region of Mai Chau valley 3.5 hours west of Hanoi. Everyday you will leave all luggage at the Mai Chau village while running with only your hydration system and food to last you on the course. Water check points will be every 10km on average. See mandatory equipment list below.
Location
Mai Chau – A collection of villages, farms and huts spread out over a large beautiful area with ethnic White Thais, distantly related to tribes in Thailand, Laos and China. Breathtaking trekking and running along single track jungle trails, jeep 4 wheel drive tracks to short mountain pass climbs amongst the ethnic hill tribe villages. Race route will start in the midst of the green rice fields passing thru many villages that are truly stunning before some short mountain pass climbs (elevation 250m to 500m) going up to 1000m for the marathon category then back down to 300m elevation routes near the home of the H’mong village people.
Accommodation
See photo above on this page as this is where you will be staying. Very clean Thai stilt houses in Ban Lac village in the Mai Chau district some 4 + hours south west of Hanoi towards the Laos border. Mosquito nets and basic single soft cushion to sleep on. Nice area below the houses with large tables and chairs for socializing. Plenty of toilets (Western style and local style) clean with showers and tubs to wash your dirty running clothes and shoes.
Entry Fee:
US$600 per person (late entry fee) including transport from Hanoi airport by bus to race venue, local transport to race locations each day, boat trip day 3 from Mai Chau to Hao Binh and return bus to Hanoi, accomodation in Ban Lac village Weds, Thurs, Fri with Melia Hanoi Hotel on Saturday last night (twin sharing) with dinner outside in Hanoi and breakfast in Hanoi Melia Hotel Sunday morning with transport to airport.
Is it worth it?
If you see how much work we must do to put this together, the massive amount of expenses, logistical headaches organizing this event, not to mention gaining all the dozens of permits from each village you're running thru, we believe this is excellent value for money. We want to look at doing more 3-day events depending on feedback from this race so help us emailing this to your running friends.

Food in village (Food very good in local village and easy to order - just pay cash in local currency - Everyone has bread baguettes, bananas, noodle soup with vegetables).

- First aid kit with basic essentials (bandages, tape, antiseptic)
- Rain or spray jacket (plastic small packet kind ok)
- Running shoes - Trail running shoes recommended
- Food/energy bars/dried fruit/etc to get you thru 4-8 hours each day
- 1 x emergency freeze dried meal that you can add hot water at a village
- 1 x headlamp with new batteries
- 1 x water purification tablets

Race Director & Course Designer
Michael Maddess an active trail runner, originally from Vancouver, Canada has worked on 17 Action Asia Challenges across Asia, 2 Vietnam AA adventure races, 2 Himalayan Mtn Bike races, 22 Action SPRINT HK adventure races, 8 Action Asia Off Road HK races, worked/competed in numerous other road races/triathlons including completing 3 Ironman triathlons, 2nd runner-up in 100km trailwalker in 13 hrs 25 min, 4th last year in Trailwalker in 12 hrs 44 min, winning team in Sabah 3 day race, placed 8th overall in the Gobi 250km race, coached dragonboat teams, climbed to 15,000+ft Annapurna Basecamp and jumps off bridges in Nepal for fun.
CSR - Raising money for Action Asia Foundation - Ethnic Hill Tribe Village Children
The Action Asia Foundation is interested in raising money for the children of the Village region area and whether it is a donation of US$ 5 or US$ 100, all donations are welcome but not mandatory. A sponsorship pledge form will be sent by email to confirmed participants and put on the site. We're also looking at a way to do more and will discuss this with different organizations for CSR ideas and welcome input.

活動：越南三天越野跑步比賽
時間：2010年6月30日 – 2010年7月4日
地點：越南梅州
現正開始接受服名, 請立即參加, 可到網上 online registration 中填寫表格。
比賽將於梅州(越南北部山區) 舉行，梅州由一連串村落、農莊及棚屋。比賽將於村落與村落之間的山路及泥路上舉行。
住宿安排：梅州位於河內西南面大約四小時車程，將居住於山區村莊內的泰式棚屋，屋內備有蚊帳及軟墊以供睡眠之用。比賽位置與2002年舉行的越南梅州跑步比賽相似。
機票安排：由於將近假期，是次活動大約預留了120個機位由香港飛往河內機場，請儘早預留機位。如果由其他國家出發，請自行訂購機票兼於6月30日下午3時55分於河內機場集合以乘搭動感亞洲活動提供的旅遊巴士往梅州。
