Cale & Korzh rock the Ridgelines - Double Cove Sai Kung 2 Ridges

Over 600 trail runners and weekend warriors took on the challenge of the ‘2014 - Double Cove SK 2 Ridges’ on 21 of September 2014. Runners conquered the mountainside of the Ma On Shan in the 18km run and enjoyed the stunning view from the peak on a sunny Sunday while others in the 17km and 8km finished the first edition of the course.

Overall Champion of the 18km race was Steve Cale from United Kingdom finishing in 2:12:59, Steve said, "I used to run a lot, but I have stopped my practicing for a year or so due to my work schedule. I restarted my training recently, and I was excited about joining this introductory race. Reaching on the top is the most challenging part of the racing, especially running on the narrow single track was breathtaking and incredibly technical, but loved the design" said Overall Cale from .Mercia Fell Runners.

Olya Korzh won the Women’s 18km race in 2:39:52. The Salomon runner Korzh said, "the event was well organized by Action Asia Events. Staff and Volunteers were all very helpful and were much appreciated for their hard work. The course was quite challenging at the same time. Some tracks were covered with slippery grass and some were bumpy and technical. Runners needed to pay extra attention on the surface, but really enjoyed the first edition.’ said overall Women's winner Korzh..

Thomas Robertshaw of Team Ching Long grabbed second overallin the Men’s 18km race in 2:25:11 minutes. ‘It was a challenging race indeed. I had a lot of fun, enjoy Ma On Shan view which is very beautiful and the weather was just perfect for trail running today. I am excited to join this race in coming future" said 2nd overall Robertshaw.

Giuseppe Mollica came home third in Men’s 18km, finishing in 2:27:02 and said “I enjoyed running on a single track than taking lots of elevation. Hence, I burned so much energy in going uphill. I ran up to the peak and realized how beautiful the view of Sai Kung is, it was fascinating,” said Mollica from HK Trail Runners.

Previous podium finisher of the Suunto Lantau 2 Peaks Marie McNaughton was a strong force coming second in the Women’s 18km. ‘2014 - Double Cove SK 2 Ridges. "’Excellent course. It requires lots of brutal climbing, and rough steep downhill, yet the second half of the course were much more relaxing on the legs" said McNaughton..

The 2nd runner up of the Women’s 18 km race goes to a local trail runner Lo Ching Ling. “I had a lot of fun in the race despite the track at the beginning was tough to me. I even twisted my ankle. Luckily it did not affect much on my performance and I am satisfied with the result.” Said Lo.

Many participants commented on the scenery on the course and the convenient location was  fantastic. Double Cove is very close to public transport.

The winner in the Men’s 17km goes to Isaac Yuen Wan Ho who accomplished the task in 1:49:02, and expressed that the course requires lots of technical work to cross the hilly terrain if you want to do well.

Claire Chapman won the Women’s 17km race in 2:10:08. "Amazing course after crossing the first hill, it was a complete surprise that the view was so stunning. I have never run around in Double cove, and it was really great to see such scenery" said Chapman the 2XU Ambassador.

Richard Cowley grabbed the first place in the Men’s 8km race in 33 minutes 28 seconds. ‘I really enjoyed the course today. It was bit challenging for the first half because there were many uphill. Running downwards was much easier in the second half. It was pretty relaxing. Said overall winner Cowley, “Double cove is a great location for trail running, residents living here are so lucky, I should really consider investing a property here.” Richard added..

The winner of the Women’s 8km race was Kirsten Lamb, finished in 42 minutes:16 seconds.  Kirsten joked about that the course description has mistaken her. “It said that there are lots of gentle hills, but it wasn’t like that at all. It is a tough job to finish the course within a short time especially technical stair section at the beginning and the short little hills near the start" Lamb laughed..
