Hobart to Hong Kong – Orienteering will come in handy - Hanny Allston - Preview Lantau 2 Peaks

In July of 2015 the North Face/Suunto sponsored elite athlete Hanny Allston was tied with Emelie Forsberg in Skyrace Series points. For those that don’t know Hanny (Hobart, Tasmania, Australia) she was the first non-European to win the World Orienteering Championships in 2006. Also the World Games Champion for Orienteering in 2009 and finished 10th at the recent World Orienteering Cup long distance race in January 2015. In 2007 Hanny progressed into marathon and distance track running, winning the Melbourne Marathon in 2007 & the New Zealand Marathon Championships in 2008. In 2010 Hanny was ranked in the top 10 runners in Australia in every distance from the 3000m (9mins07sec) to marathon (2hrs40mins).

Hanny recently moved into ultra & trail running and in 2013 set a new record for the 82km Cradle Mountain Ultra in a time of 8hrs14mins. In 2014 Hanny’s successes were winning the Six Foot Track 46km in 3hrs40mins and many domestic mountain running races. Hanny also continued to represent Australia at World Championship events in orienteering, finishing 10th at the recent World Cup Long Distance race in January.

Hanny currently operates a full-time trail running coaching & outdoor retail business, Find Your Feet (est. 2009) that involves: performance consulting; training camps & running tours; coaching provision for major events, such as The North Face 100k; life & health
coaching; and retail. Hanny is also the head coach of the Australian Junior World Orienteering Team for Orienteering Australia 2014-15.

Hanny’s goals for 2015-16 is to achieve on the world stage in Skyrunning and distance trail running races. Aiming to compete in: the Oceania Buffalo Skyrace 42km; Dolomites Skyrace 21km; Matterhorn Skyrace 46km; and the Lantau 2 Peaks 23km.

Watch out for Australia to potentially upset the Women’s field at the Lantau 2 Peaks.
