Runners getting excited as double last event

HONG KONG, JUNE 22, 2021 – For the 3rd time this year with almost all sports shut down for hiking or trail running events due to COVID-19, the organizer Action Asia Events was given permission by the Hong Kong government for the upcoming Bonaqua Action Sprint Half Marathon with just over 1 week to organize everything with the deadline to enter this Thursday (Jun 24).

Countdown to this weekend’s Bonaqua Action Sprint Half Marathon with a 12km and 21km distance starting and finishing at Pak Tam Chung, Sai Kung will have flag off at 6:30am with the race pack pick up beginning at Action X Store Sheung Wan this Thursday.

"So excited that the races are finally back on and I love the idea of everyone being vaccinated! See you on Saturday bright and early" said Jennifer Pollock running the Women’s 12km.

“This will be my first live trail race in over a year. I’m very excited. This is a great sign that things are moving in the right direction in terms of opening back up, ” said Jeff Campbell winner of a previous Lantau 2 Peaks edition and numerous podium results to his credit entered in the Men’s 21km.

"Thank you for making the race happen Action Asia Events as we all look forward to it coming Saturday!" said Olivia Luk entered in the Women’s 21km.

"I’ve been running many AA events in the past and had loads of fun. I wanna thank you for your hard work to make the Sai Kung race happen. I am sure this experiment will give the confidence to the HK GVMT to allow other races with same concept in the future. Can’t wait to there to be part of the resumption of trail running racing in HK!" said Davide Furlan signing up for the Men’s 12km.

“I’m super excited about the race this Saturday! The last race organized by Action Asia Events was safe and all the precautionary measures taken, hence I’m comfortable about taking part again in the Action Asia race this sat! Hope the trail events will come back soon second half of the year", said Flora Ching who finished on the podium at the April HK50 - 24km event.

Organizers are happy that already double the amount of participants compared to the April 2021 event Action Asia Events hosted. “Wonderful news as almost 200 now, already more than double the last event so great news with deadline Thursday so looking forward to seeing many happy faces on the course early in the morning and more events across the spectrum being given permission to kick start Hong Kong as we are all suffering. Really hoping the Hong Kong trail running community can get more approved races by the Hong Kong government as they can be organized in a safe disciplined way” said the Race Director and Course Designer Michael Maddess of Action Asia Events.

All trail running participants must follow strict health procedures including social distancing 1.5m apart, wearing masks and have 2 vaccination shots with the health guidelines uploaded to the official event website page.

Both distances of 12km & 21km take runners and hikers on the road from the Pak Tam Chung gate to the Lok Wu Country Trail entrance on Pak Tam Road, following Lok Wu Country trail around 6 km with mixed terrain of dirt trails, stone steps and a small river crossing with a few uphills and the highest elevation of 298m before arriving a Sai Wan Road. Then the event turns into a road run with a water checkpoint and continuing 5km on Sai Wan road along the scenic and quiet reservoir to the 11km mark at the junction of Sai Wan Road & Man Yee Road where the 21km runners will do a left turn following the MacLehose on Man Yee Road for another 4.3km to a second water checkpoint around the 15km mark before returning to the same location and all following Tai Mong Tsai Road to Pak Tam Chung finish for both 12km & the 21 km Half Marathon. Elevation gain on the 12km is around 507m and on the 21km elevation gain around 539m.

The event could not have happened without the kind support of Bonaqua as the official water with additional support of Walch, Amcham, Royale International, Action X Store, Nectar, Hydro, SportBiji, LR masks, Bix, Herbalgy, C3fit, New Life Plastics.
