Hamlin backyard training pays off in Women’s while Campbell fights off Chan & Tamang at Lantau 50 by Action Asia Events

HONG KONG, Dec 13, 2025 – Local Lantau resident British national Katrina Hamlin (T8/GoneRunningBuffCo) held a commanding lead over the Women’s field at the Lantau 50 by Action Asia Events going on to win the 51km distance (54km change due to landslide) in a remarkable time of 7 hours 8 minutes 20 seconds using her backyard Lantau training to push her on. In the Men’s field Canadian Jeff Campbell (T8) was swapping places thru the first half of around Nei Lek Shan, Ngong Ping, Keung Shan ridge, Shek Pik reservoir with recent HK50 winner KC Chan (3rd also 2023 Lantau 50) and recent Hysan Island Hike Run champion Nepalese Santosh Tamang. The 3 men battled within meters of each other ripping the technical downhills at breakneck speed, before Campbell pushed relentlessly uphill on the Shek Pik Country trail to try and stretch the others, before the punishing 934m steep Lantau Peak climb. Tamang got by Chan on Lantau Peak, but couldn’t catch Campbell over the final climbs of Sunset Peak and Lin Fa Shan section for the final 20km with Campbell going on to win in 5 hours 58 minutes 44 seconds.

“Its just such a lovely course out there. Really really beautiful. Great volunteers, staff and to the organizers as all day long did a great job. Really fast field as the pace was as really fast, very quick as legs were feeling it going up Sunset as happy to hold on. Thanks for making this happen.” Said overall Lantau 50 winner Campbell.

Just over 4 minutes behind was Nepalese Santosh Tamang (HKNutra) who was always seen smiling, even though were sure the legs were feeling it. “Nice organizing. Action Asia. Nice viewing of Lantau Peak good course marking. Good competition with others.. The 3 of us, Jeff and KC were close together and we were fighting. Little too fast. Maybe a little too fast over the beginning. Namaste.” Said Tamang after a brilliant performance grabbing 2nd overall in 6 hours 2 minutes 58 seconds in the 50km distance of Lantau 50 after a long comeback over the years to be again one of Hong Kong’s top ultra runners in the hills.

Local HK national KC Chan (T8) who placed 1st recently in the opening of the HK50 series and 3rd in the Lantau 50 in 2023 was determined to stay up front and win, but might have pushed his luck in thinking he could recover fast enough from another race 2 weeks ago. “Today was very close, very humid at the start. Quite challenging in the first 32km with a battle along Jeff and Santosh up to the Shek Pik area as all together. Quite difficult up Lantau Peak and Sunset Peak as those are at the end and really felt it. The course marking was great as big thanks to Action Asia.” Said KC Chan taking 3rd overall in the Mens 50 in 6 hours 16 minutes 47 seconds.

Fourth from the Salomon team was HK national Nathan Wong 黃 Kwok Wai 國威 finishing the 50km in 6 hours 28 minutes 35 seconds. This is my 6th time I think joining the Lantau 50 and this was the most, fierce field yet I encountered. I couldn’t get any rest on the whole 50 course as always battling the 5th place person swapping places and the top 3 guys were like a rocket as just flying and couldn’t see them after 10km in. Always special doing an Action Asia organized race as marking is always good. I’m happy I’m back and hope can join again next year.” Said Wong taking 4th overall.

Battling with Wong was 5th place overall French national Jean Christophe Monnerville (Central Wellness) who finished in 6:32:36. Really pleased with result and time as pretty much what I was aiming for. Super happy to be back on trails after an injury and getting stitches so ankle feels great. The course was just beautiful, mainly trail, great help along the way at all checkpoints, the oganization was great, everyone was super helpful, but it was very tough and super happy with my day” said 5th overall Monnerville in the 50km.

Katrina Hamlin (T8 Gone Running / Joint Dynamics Umara) put on a power of strength pushing the envelope for the Women’s field in amazing time of 7 hours 8 minutes 20 seconds. “Just finished Lantau 50. I was really scared of this course. It’s really, technical. Theres loads of hills. But I had such a great day out. I’m so glad I gave it a go. If you’re a bit scared of it too, I would encourage you to give it a try”, said overall Women’s Lantau 50 winner Katrina Hamlin motivating and inspiring others to give it a go no matter how you feel.

Tse 謝 Karen 芷蕙 grabbed 2nd overall in 8 hours 12 minutes 7 seconds at the Lantau 50 full distance. “Weather conditions were perfect today as nice and cool up on Lantau peak today which really helped, really fun, but a very technical route, so yeah, pretty pleased with the result” said Tse.

Third across the line for the Women’s 50 was Chan 陳 Hoi Ying 海盈. “Love this Lantau 50 trail route and the weather was perfect so no complaints at all” said Chan finishing in 8 hours 13 minutes 32 seconds..

Leung 梁 Hong Kiu 康翹 Kimmy (The North Face HK) who has numerous podium positions under her belt, took 4th overall in the Womens Lantau 50. ”Fun running the Action Asia Lantau 50 as good temperatures, but technically always tough, but managed to finish in around 8 and half hours after cramping in the legs, but really satisfied with result. Thanks so much for organization” said Leung who finished in 8 hours 29 minutes 53 seconds.

Taking 5th overall in the Womens 50 was Pang 彭 Katherine 樂文. “Today had a great race and would like to thank the organizer and all volunteers for a wonderful event as great performance. Had a great run and surprised I got 5th and so happy” said Pang finishing in 8 hours 40 minutes 29 seconds.

The HK50 series is a best out of 4 races choosing the best 3 performances. Winners will have an opportunity to go to the Skyrunning World Championship in 2026 representing Hong Kong.

Thel Lantau 50 provided three distance categories including 16km, 27km Skyrace and 51km Ultra Skymarathon. The 51km course (formally 54km but shortened due to landslide)  flagged off 6:30am from Man Tung Road Park in Tung Chung, Lantau Island, taking runners up to Nei Lek Shan, Ngong Ping, Keung Shan ridge, Shek Pik, Lantau Peak - height 934m, Sunset Peak - height 800m, Pak Mong finishing in Tung Chung challenging even the most experienced runners with over 3,000m of elevation gain, 3,000m of elevation loss with a 12-hour cut-off.
