3000m+ elevation gain pushes many to limit - Taiwan Action Asia 50 Skyrunning race

3000m+ elevation gain pushes many to limit at Taiwan Action Asia 50 Skyrunning race

Nov 8, 2025 – Taipei – Shihmen Reservoir Taoyaun County – Hand rope holds, tree routes, rock gardens, nonstop technical trails one after another were some of the challenges at arguably one of Asia’s toughest, technical 50 km Skyrunning events that Action Asia Event participants had to deal with.

Event organizers managed to clean many overgrown trails with a couple minor hilly detours, adding to the already 3000m+ elevation gain course that felt more like 5000m+ with the nonstop use of ropes, technical rocks that makes a Hong Kong course look lame in comparison.

Race morning, dark, headlamps shining, the glowing fluorescent yellow ribbons and signs guided the 50km participants up Shihmen Shan for the first 10km loop around Shihmen Reservoir, Saturday November 8th with Frenchman Raphael Fourn (École de Trail du Bout du Monde) taking the overall Men’s 50km title in 7 hours 8 minutes 11 seconds. Hong Kong’s Yuen 袁Tsz Kwan 芷筠 (Peak Hunter) took the overall Women’s 50km title in 8 hours 26 minutes 50 seconds.

“My name is Raphael from France and living in Kaoshung now where I do my training. Today was happy participating in the 50k of the Taiwan Action Asia 50 but it was great finishing 1st. The course was amazing, but very technical and challenging for the body, resulting in a lot cramps so it was quite difficult for me, but it was good and thank you for the organization” said overall Men’s 50km winner Raphaël Fourn who finished in 7 hours 8 mintes 11 seconds.

Finishing 2nd overall was French national Alexandre Humbert finishing in 7 hours 16 minutes 36 seconds. “My friends call me Alex. From France, Living in New Taipei 12 yrs. Great day for me as loved it.. Very steep. It was great first 3k as very fast, then complicated as got cramps in legs later, very steep technical trails slowed me down, difficult terrain, but overall enjoyed the Action Asia trail race.  The wild feeling was great from the dark to sunrise feeling as really liked it. When we went far away up on the crest after cp3 (Baijishan (白雞山)  it was very remote and I was really slowed down as so many technical hills. But fun using ropes on some of the climbs as really good and just loved the feeling. I did do a Chinese trick of mine to make the pain go away listening to music full blast on the downhills” said 2nd overall Mens 50km Humbert.

French national Julien Ferard came home 3rd overall in Men’s 50km in 7 hours 24 minutes 22 seconds. “It was long beautiful and brutal. I did this Taiwan Action Asia 50 a few years when it was shorter (46km) and didn’t check carefully as didn’t expect that extra loop around the lake added in the middle (now 50km), but it was nice, beautiful lake on the extra loop. Loved it. Thanks so much,” said Ferard.

Fourth in the men’s 50km was Chiu 邱 Mu-En 沐恩 - Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) - AKW x 靠北越野 finishing as the top Taiwan runner in a very fast time of 7 hours 39 minutes 33 seconds. The Shihmen course was so beautiful with numerous hills. Very happy grabbing 4th overall after such a hard day. Very good organization and thank you Action Asia for bringing this to Taiwan” said Chiu happy with his 4th overall in Men’s 50km.

Taking 5th overall in the Men’s 50km was Ke 柯 Yi Cheung 益程 Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) – finishing in 7 hours 45 minutes 17 seconds. “Today did a very hard 50km as wasn’t easy in the dark on Shihmen san on first 11km. Many hills as very tough on the body as so technical as did my best and happy with the result taking 5th overall in Men’s 50km of Taiwan Action Asia 50” said Ke.

“Hi I’m Randy from Hong Kong. Just finished the 50km Taiwan Action Asia 50. The route was quite difficult for me as I remember around halfway thru the first 10km it was so hard, technical and just kept pushing until the end. Really loved the experience in Taiwan as such a great course, great marking, well organized as and loved the whole thing so much. Thank you’ said Randy Yuen 袁 Tsz Kwan 芷筠  from the Hong Kong SAR finishing in 8 hours 26 minutes 50 seconds to win the overall Women’s 50km Taiwan Action Asia 50 Skyrunning title.

Finishing 2nd overall in the Women’s 50km was Hong Kong’s Wong 黃 Sze Ching 詩晴 who finished in 8 hours 44 minutes 7 seconds. “Very impressive race. Really enjoyed the race today as the weather was so good, enjoyed the climbing sections as always enjoy this kind of climbing in the mountains, not like some of the boring hills in Hong Kong as this was so different, but the uphills were very hard for me as this was so interesting and technical. I did bang up my knee, but I will be ok” said 2nd Women overall in the 50km Wong.

Finishing 3rd overall in the Women’s 50km was Taiwanese Lo 羅 Hsiang Sa 香灑 (Chinese Taipei) who finished in 10 hours and 29 seconds. “I’m from Taipei. Very hard today as so many hills with over 3000m elevation gain as nonstop hills. Liked Shigo san on the course as my favorite. I didn’t expect 3rd so very happy as this is the first time I’ve ever done anything this hard as so many memories and really glad I entered, said 3rd place 50km Women’s runner Lo and the top Female runner in the 50km from Taiwan.

Fourth overall was Wincy Ho (Ho何 Wincy 允祈) from United Kingdom who lives now in Hong Kong who finished in 10 hours 17 minutes 52 seconds. “We came to Taiwan for this Action Asia 50 race. The trails were really technical but loved every bit of it. Thank you Mr Agong, Michael and CC and Action Asia team and all the staff that put all your hardwork into this as so many positive memories. Really appreciated as all the volunteers were amazing and so lovely. Thank you so much. Action Asia. We’ll be back.” said Ho finishing 4th overall in Women’s 50km with a very big smile on her face.

Finishing 5th overall in the Women’s 50km was also from Hong Kong, Chan 陳 Ho Yim 可嚴 completing the 50km in 10 hours 17 minutes 55 seconds. Today was so happy to grab 5th in the Women’s 50km as the Action Asia course was very technical, lots of climbing, but so different in the design to many other races as just loved it. The organizers did a very good job and we will do the next Action Asia race in Hong Kong. Thank you so much for making such an incredible Taiwan course with such a nice atmosphere and very good marking as amazing and just loved it especially the climbing with headlamps in the dark.” Said Chan taking 5th overall in the Womens.

The Taiwan Action Asia 50 was organized by Action Asia Events and could not happen without all the hard working Taiwan partners, marshals, staff, medical staff, ambulance crew, first aid response AED team, emergency medical team, transport officials and without the generous support of our supporting partners Deer Run Store in Songshan, Royale International, MaxPure, Action X Store, FeedZone Café, Action Asia Sports Academy and Taiwan Trail Running Club.
