Season Opener – CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks: KC Chan takes title 2nd year in a row – Emma Phipkin on top of Women’s podium with stiff competition
Hong Kong, [Oct 5, 2025] – After the long hot summer and a few typhoons, the Hong Kong trail running season officially commenced with one of the most challenging and exhilarating events on the calendar: the CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks, organized by Action Asia Events. This year’s race took place on Sunday with a tight Women’s and Men’s field pushing for podium spots.
The thrilling Lantau event started in T3 weather with participants conquering both Lantau Peak (934m) and Sunset Peak (800m+), covering around 1800m of total elevation gain over a grueling 23.9km (24km) course. A shorter 15km option with 854m of elevation gain is also available, providing outdoor enthusiasts and athletes with a unique and unforgettable experience.
The 2024 overall Men’s 24km solo winner from Hong Kong, Chan 陳Ka Keung 家強(KC) (T8/Bix) pushed hard to take the overall title again in 2025 with a smile at the finish saying, “Wow that was windy, but great time getting over the top and conditions were cooler but different all over the course as was nice being sheltered in the trees, but on going over the top was exciting with others on my tail pushing hard with the wind hitting me. So happy to win the 2 peaks again and thanks to CBRE for supporting this” said overall Men’s winner Chan.
Hot on the winners heals just over 2min later came Chan 陳Chi Keung 志強from Hong Kong (TPH Elite team) performing an exceptional run taking 2nd overall in the Men’s for his 2nd year in a row also. “This was an exciting weather race as had almost everything, but happy to grab 2nd as I did a lot of training for this and thanks for all the staff out there,” said Chan Chi Keung.
The women’s 24km solo race had a battle with first overall British national Emma Phipkin (T8) and 2nd overall Hong Kong’s Lee 李Tsz Kwan 梓鈞 (T8) with 3rd overall Zhu 朱Xiaoqian 笑倩 who has had many previous Action Asia overall wins. Pak 白Lai Shan麗珊from Hong Kong, (Duo.hk) was close by taking 4th overall with Eleanor Gould-Pereira (UK) grabbing 5th just a few minutes in front of Hong Kong’s Kimmy Leung 梁Hong Kiu 康翹 (North Face HK) taking a close 6th with others not far behind.
Nepalese runner Santosh Tamang took 3rd overall with Sebastian Cotton (Gone Running/Joint Dynamics) grabbing a close 4th and not far behind was Spaniard Daniel Perez (Kailas Fuga Team) taking 5th.
"Yeah, it was a really fun race and kudos to all who made it today as very windy, very wet but so much fun. So am glad we actually gave it a go. Thanks to all the staff and the organizer on the course as it was pretty wild, but fun” said overall women’s winner Phipkin.
“It was inspiring to witness the strong participation and energy at this year’s CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks race. We are proud to have once again supported this remarkable event—one of the city’s most challenging races. Seeing our colleagues, clients, and the wider community unite in the spirit of challenge and camaraderie was truly uplifting. We are grateful to Action Asia Events for their continued collaboration in promoting wellness, sustainability, and a strong sense of community.” — Mr. Luke Moffat, President, North Asia, Advisory Services, CBRE
Race Director & Course Designer Michael Maddess emphasized the importance of community in the event. "It was a tough day to call as the T3 was relatively tame early morning, but as winds picked up again towards late morning we had to make a call on safety and chose to end at the 2nd checkpoint which is never easy as some said the final section was ok, but we also have to look after the slower participants on the course and not just elites, hence ending the race a bit earlier than normal. Believe everyone had a windy experience and looking forward to better weather in Hong Kong, together with all motivating their friends and colleagues to get outside and experience the beautiful trails Hong Kong has to offer. Finally, big thank you to our title sponsor CBRE for making the Lantau 2 Peaks happen together with all the fantastic and hardcore staff we had out in the trails and checkpoints as without them, we couldn’t have done this." Maddess remarked.
The Lantau 2 Peaks would not be possible without the generous support of presenting title sponsor CBRE. Special thanks to all supporting partners, including Neon Tiger, Corona Beer, Cosman Health Group, Citygate Outlets, Action X Store, Watsons Water, Fitz, BIX recovery, Action Asia Sports Academy, Royale International and all staff, marshals, and volunteers who contribute their time and energy to make this event a success.
