Season Opener – CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks:
Hong Kong, [Oct 3, 2025] – Since 2009, the Hong Kong trail running season has officially commenced after the long, hot summer with one of the most challenging and exhilarating events on the calendar: the CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks. Organized by Action Asia Events, this year’s race will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
The thrilling Lantau event invites participants to conquer both Lantau Peak (934m) and Sunset Peak (800m+), covering over 1800m of total elevation gain over a grueling 23.9km (24km) course. A shorter 15km option with 854m of elevation gain is also available, providing outdoor enthusiasts and athletes with a unique and unforgettable experience.
The CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks is renowned for its tough, technical terrain and is strategically scheduled for early October when temperatures begin to cool, dropping to around 30°C from the summer highs of 33-35°C. While still warm, the conditions challenge competitors to stay hydrated and prepare for the race’s demands. The event serves as a benchmark for participants to evaluate their summer training and set goals for the upcoming new trail season.
Among the anticipated women competitors is Kimmy Leung who grabbed 4th overall in the full 24km course in 2024. “Racing Lantau 2 Peaks after the typhoon would be a challenging start of the race season. I would enjoy the views and at the same time try my best to run a personal best for the course. Excited” said Leung.
KC Chan, an “all-rounder” local Hong Kong trail runner, has had great results winning 50km trail races and surging when needed in shorter technical events. He will be one of the favorites after winning the 2024 CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks. “It’s never easy hiking up the steep Lantau stone steps with high humidity and hot temperatures at beginning of October. This Lantau 2 Peaks course always consumes a lot of physical energy and is a big challenge on the body” said Chan, one of the mens favorites.
Action Asia Events remains dedicated to hosting high-quality sports events, and the CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks exemplifies this commitment.
“CBRE Hong Kong is proud to continue our partnership with the Lantau 2 Peaks race for the fifth consecutive year. This signature event on our annual calendar embodies the values of resilience, community, and sustainability. As title sponsor, we are committed to supporting initiatives that promote wellness and environmental responsibility, while encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle among our people. The race not only brings our teams together beyond the workplace, but also reinforces our dedication to Hong Kong’s vibrant outdoor and sporting community.”— Mr. Luke Moffat, President, North Asia, Advisory Services, CBRE
Race Director & Course Designer Michael Maddess emphasized the importance of community in the event. "The CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks season opener is always one of my favorites as it brings the whole trail running community together after everyone doing their own thing over HK’s hot summer, dealing with typhoons, it will be interesting who stepped up in their training and who didn’t put in the time, but laying a benchmark on what work needs to be focused on to get back on track for a good season ahead," Maddess remarked.
The Lantau 2 Peaks would not be possible without the generous support of presenting title sponsor CBRE. Special thanks to all supporting partners, including Neon Tiger, Corona Beer, Cosman Health Group, Citygate Outlets, Action X Store, Watsons Water, Fitz, BIX recovery, Action Asia Sports Academy, Royale International and all staff, marshals, and volunteers who contribute their time and energy to make this event a success.
