Lam takes Women’s 50km title for 2nd year in a row while Lo narrowly misses record

Lam takes Women’s 50km title for 2nd year in a row while Lo narrowly misses record

HONG KONG, Feb 7, 2026 – Action Asia Events kicked off HK50 West - race 3 of the HK50 series with perfect cool conditions to make the first climb from Shing Mun up Tai Mo Shan a bit faster than normal on one of the most runnable courses in the series, but still plenty of technical sections that can cause havoc if not paying attention. The longer distance 55km category had around 10-15 minutes darkness on the first stair climb, before enough light to help them on the technical trails that followed going up Tai Mo Shan and into Tai Lam Country Park on the ultra-marathon trail course.

Hong Kong resident Lo 羅 Rex 樂賢 took the overall win in the 55km distance taking advantage of the fog on top of Tai Mo Shan over the chasing group.

“Very happy I got to enter the HK50 West as today the weather was ok, guess windy, good for running, but up in Tai Mo Shan, I remember it was foggy and a benefit for me as I could push hard with others not seeing me and could keep my pacing to build a gap over others which I believe helped me win the race” said Lo after his overall win in the Men’s 55km distance in 5 hours 9 minutes 47 seconds just 2 minutes outside of the course record by KC Chan who ended up grabbing 2nd behind him.

The 2023 HK50 West winner and course record holder for the counterclockwise direction of the 55km route, had it a little more difficult this year. “Around 3 km into the race going up Tai Mo Shan I rolled my ankle and pushed hard to stay with the runner near me (Zhong Chao Song from Shenzhen). It was hard, but I was determined to have a good race and not let my ankle mentally drain me as I trained so hard for this. I didn’t see Rex as he disappeared, going up the first big climb in the fog. After battling with the 2nd lead runner at the time (Zhong), we came down the last technical trail section Lung Mun country trail at around 53km into the race and on the catchwater last section with 1km to go to the finish, we were both sprinting and I got by him to grab 2nd which I was very happy, but the ankle is all swollen now. The marking was good which helped” said Chan 陳 Ka Keung 家強 (KC) taking 2nd overall in the Men’s 55km in a time of 5 hours 26 minutes 18 seconds who commented at the finish line holding a bag of ice over a red puffed-up swollen ankle.

Grabbing 3rd overall in the Men’s 55km was Shenzhen’s Zhong 钟 Chao Song 朝松 finishing in 5 hours 27 minutes 23 seconds just a minute behind KC Chan. “That was so much fun as I have never done this before and my friends from Shenzhen who have done previous races by AAE (Action Asia Events) said I must try as the organization and the trail designs are always good and fun. They were correct as so well marked and very impressed and will come back with more friend’s next time. Look forward possibly to other Action Asia races in different countries” said Zhong as very happy with the overall experience which is always positive when others travel to Hong Kong having a good time.

Hong Kong’s Wong 黃 Kwok Wai 國威 Nathan (SALOMON HK) took 4th overall in 6 hours and 22 seconds.

“Start of the race was a bit foggy, but was fine as the weather was very comfortable and as the marking was very good I always enjoy this race as can relax and have a great experience” said Nathan Wong Kwok Wai the 55km Male 4th place finisher at the HK50 West.

Luk 陸 Cheuk Ting Plato 卓廷 was next across the finish line in 5th overall in Men’s 55km.

“I’m not satisfied with 5th place as was hoping to get the money offered for the higher positions” joked Plato, but after that he said, “Make sure you register on time and pay the early bird or you will have to pay the late fee” also joking as Plato ended up being one of the very last to enter as his fitness level was good enough to push himself to sign up the week of the race at the time of the 55km registration cutoff. Great result with Luk pushing hard to stay upfront with the other elites finishing 5th overall in 6 hours 10 minutes 26 seconds.

Hong Kong resident Harmony Lam 林 Cho Yu 楚如 took the overall Women’s 55km title for the 2nd year in a row at the HK50 West winning this time in 6 hours 35 minutes 37 seconds, who also holds the course record in this counterclockwise direction that she set in 2025. “We started in the dark at the HK50 West which was nice climbing up the first section of Tai Mo Shan, but due to cooler weather and cloudy up Tai Mo Shan, which was nice, I think I went out too fast and felt tired as after 15km I fell down, cut my arm and knee. However, after 30km I slowed a bit, ate more food at the checkpoint, recovered a bit so I could run the road section better after 30km and most of the trail up to the last section going back up Tai Mo Shan. This course has a lot of runnable sections (going into Tai Lam and back to Tai Mo Shan) so I like it as a great training course for all of us” said overall Women’s 55km winner Lam while laughing at her bruised arm and knee as just part of the bigger picture of enjoying the outdoors!

Second in the Women’s 55km at HK50 West was UK national Eleanor Gould-Pereira finishing in 6 hours 57 minutes 20 seconds. ”Happy with 2nd place female. Sub 7 hours so super happy. Great course as always.  Nice big 1000m climb in first 10km which is always very humbling, but then super-fast in the 2nd half so it was very nice to have fast finish today as well. Great as always and thank you”, said Gould-Pereira in her T8 Joint Dynamics shirt.

Kimmy Leung 梁 Hong Kiu 康翹 (The North Face HK) grabbed 3rd overall in the Women’s 55km in 7 hours 16 minutes 31 seconds. “Today the weather was nice at the HK50 West.. The course was beautiful, technical, challenging, but runnable and fun. Happy with 3rd overall in the Women’s 55km. See you soon again!” said Leung after grabbing 3rd overall.

Chu 朱 Feanca 詠笙 took 4th overall in the Women’s 55km finishing in 7 hours 19 minutes 7 seconds and clearly stoked after her performance. “My name is Feanca and this was my first 50km of this season and the weather was very good as not too hot, quite foggy up top of Tai Mo Shan, but I tried my best to run as much as possible and the result was quite unexpected and glad as quite happy with it” said a smiling Chu clearly ready for her next challenge.

Pang 彭 Katherine 樂文 grabbed 5th overall in 7 hours 38 minutes 52 seconds. “Great run. Great weather for running as not too hot. Great vibe at checkpoints and finish with so many happy people and loved the very ripe fruit at the cps as made my day” said Pang after grabbing 5th overall in the Women’s 55km.

Over 400 entered the HK50 West event organized by Action Asia Events that had participants start at Shing Mun reservoir, climb over Hong Kong’s tallest mountain - 917m Tai Mo Shan, descend to Ho Pui Reservoir area, lower Tai Lam Chung Reservoir with Yuen Tsuen Ancient trail sections, before a long steady climb halfway back up Tai Mo Shan, then descending technical trails back to Shing Mun Reservoir, finishing with a catchwater sprint for a total elevation gain of 2572m (higher elevation on different gps watches) covering 3 distances of 55km, 25km and 11km. The 55km runners started with around 15minutes of darkness requiring headlamps, before enough light on the trail.

“Always nice to hear comments from others on the beauty of Hong Kong and their experience at our events. Never easy organizing these with all the government requests but determined to push individuals to get more into the outdoors as so positive for the mind, relieving stress and taking your mind off work while socializing with such a cool crowd that like to push their bodies to the limit in these ultras. Just wish we had more time to speak with sponsors as so much administration work to organize these events.

Look forward to our next event in Sai Kung Feb 28 which always is interesting” said Michael Maddess, Course designer and Director of Action Asia Events.

The HK50 West could not have happened without the hard-working staff at Action Asia Events, the course marshals, drivers and all involved in the operation that pushed themselves out of bed as early as 2am to get up to Shing Mun, Tai Mo Shan and Tai Lam Chung areas in the dark which is inspiring in itself. Special thanks to the supporting partners Bonaqua, Aquarius, Corona beer, UFC coconut water, Neon Tiger soda, Action X Store, Fitz, No Normal Outdoor Coffee, ITRA and Action Asia Sports Academy.

The final race 4 of the HK50 series moves to Sai Kung on Feb 28, 2026.
