Lantau 2 Peaks Virtual - Ready for burning legs

Lantau 2 Peaks Virtual – ready for burning legs

Yes, the Lantau 2 Peaks has gone virtual. What will drive participants mentally to get through almost 1900m+ gain and 1900m loss over 23.9km by themselves. We never thought this would happen, but welcome to the new normal. 11 days to choose a convenient day to knock the L2P course off. That means you must go there to run/hike/crawl if you have to and physically complete the full Lantau 2 Peaks course within the 24 hour cut-off time.
Action Asia Events reached out to a few teams for their thoughts.

We asked a few participants what they thought.

Team Q&A - Quentin Perceval & Anne Sebton
Quentin
1. Have you ever done a virtual event before and how did you mentally prepare yourself?

No, first time! Same preparation as for a real event, with a lot of running :)

2. Have you ever climbed Lantau Peak before and how hard was it. Any mental strategies as can not be easy?
Yes, 3 times! Through Dog's teeth, Lo Hon Ridge and from Mui Wo through Sunset Peak. The first two were quite steep, you need to keep going up to the top!

3. If you could recommend a short inspiring /motivational slogan to others what would it be?
Where there's a will, there's a way!

Anne
1. Have you ever done a virtual event before and how did you mentally prepare yourself?
No, I've never done this kind of virtual event. To prepare for this one, I've been training like I would for a regular racing event, running twice a week on average.

2. Have you ever climbed Lantau Peak before and how hard was it. Any mental strategies as can’t be easy?
Yes, I've climbed it twice. Once via Dog's Teeth and the second time via Lo Hon Ridge. Lo Hon Ridge was quite challenging. I think the key is to keep going at a regular pace and do a countdown of how much distance / elevation is left to keep yourself motivated!

3. If you could recommend a short inspiring /motivational slogan to others what would it be?
One of my favourite ones is a French quote 'Après l'effort, le réconfort', literally, 'After effort comes comfort'. A rough translation would be 'Work hard, Play hard!'

Team Lantau Cows - Flora Ching

1. Have you ever done a virtual event before and how did you mentally prepare yourself.

Never really done one before. The first would either be the HK island frog run (solo) or L2P (team). I treat the virtual event as another training session. Tough to have a competitive mindset when you are only running on your own or with you own team compared to racing.

2. Have you ever climbed Lantau Peak before and how hard was it. Any mental strategies as can’t be easy.

Yes, and it was alright, big steps but not particularly technical. Wong Lung Hang descending from sunset! Yes that part is technical and I never descent quickly. Always seem to lean on the side of caution and go down at conservative comfortable pace.

3. If you could recommend a short inspiring /motivational slogan to others what would it be.

There is no limit or boundary to your potential when you are able to step outside of your comfort zone and keep pushing.
